Ipswich Community Justice Group
Ipswich Community Justice Group
The Ipswich Indigenous Justice Group has been involved in the criminal justice system for many years. The group is made up of Elders and community representatives who together volunteer their time to form positive relationships with local justice agencies (courts), Police services, corrective services, prisons, Legal Aid, juvenile Justice and youth detention centres, government departments and other community services (NGO's).
The Ipswich Indigenous Justice Group plays a vital role in decreasing the number of Indigenous people in the Justice system. Some of our Elders have previously held employment in the justice system, enabling the Justice Group to act with knowledge and experience. The Ipswich Indigenous Justice Group combined provides over 60 years of knowledge with an aim to develop community based responses, strategies and activities for addressing social and justice issues in the wider Indigenous community.
