Over the past 12 months, the Five Bridges team has had the privilege of working closely with Tahlia Isaac and Project:herSELF, an organisation dedicated to supporting women impacted by the justice system through advocacy, mentoring, peer support, and practical assistance that helps them successfully reintegrate into the community.

One of the most impactful outcomes of this partnership has been the support provided to students participating in our Community Services and Strong Foundations programs. Through personalised mentoring and employment support, Project:herSELF has assisted participants to build confidence, prepare for employment, and navigate barriers that may have previously limited their opportunities.

A standout example involved a Community Services student who received one-on-one support to develop a professional resume, understand how to disclose her criminal history to prospective employers, and gain advocacy throughout her employment journey. This support helped the student take meaningful steps towards securing sustainable employment and rebuilding her future.

Tahlia has also generously shared her lived experience with students, delivering presentations that are both inspiring and empowering. Her story provides valuable insights into overcoming adversity, building resilience, and creating positive change, leaving a lasting impression on participants.

Through the ongoing partnership, several students have been referred to Project:herSELF to access mentoring, advocacy, and employment support services. Most recently, a participant from the Strong Foundations program was connected with a paid nursing pathway delivered in partnership with CQUniversity, creating a valuable opportunity to gain skills, employment experience, and a fresh start.

In addition to employment advocacy, Project:herSELF offers practical support including professional attire, interview clothing, resume development, cover letter assistance, and other resources that help women feel prepared and confident as they enter the workforce.

The positive impact of Project:herSELF on our participants has been significant. Through practical support, encouragement, and genuine care, the organisation continues to create opportunities for women to overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and build brighter futures. We are proud to work alongside Tahlia and the Project:herSELF team to strengthen pathways to employment, education, and long-term community participation.
