Rockhampton Team Giving Back Through Community Volunteering

At Five Bridges, we believe strong communities are built through connection, collaboration and a willingness to lend a helping hand. Our Rockhampton team has been proud to volunteer alongside local organisations making a real difference in the lives of people experiencing hardship across the region.

Supporting the Mobi Outreach Bus

Over the past few months, our Rockhampton team has been volunteering with the Mobi Bus, a community-led outreach initiative operated by the Shelter Collective. Team members have dedicated time each fortnight to support the service and connect with volunteers working on the front line of homelessness support.

The Mobi Bus visits locations across Rockhampton each week, providing practical assistance to people sleeping rough, including meals, clothing, showers and laundry facilities. Entirely funded through donations and volunteer support, the service is a powerful example of the community coming together to support those in need.

Through our involvement, we've gained valuable insight into the challenges facing people experiencing homelessness in the region, where many individuals and families remain on waiting lists for suitable housing.

The Shelter Collective's work extends beyond outreach. Through projects such as affordable housing developments, accommodation services and construction training pathways, the organisation is helping create long-term solutions for people seeking stability, safety and a place to call home.

Partnering with Rockhampton Food Bank

More recently, our team had the opportunity to visit the Rockhampton Food Bank, where we donated food parcels and volunteered alongside staff and community members supporting local families.

The Food Bank provides affordable grocery hampers containing fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, bread and a choice of protein, helping ease cost-of-living pressures for hundreds of people each week. The organisation relies on the generosity of charitable organisations, local businesses and community donations to continue delivering this essential support.

During our first visit, our team assisted with packing grocery boxes, spoke with patrons and provided information about the support and opportunities available through Five Bridges. The response was immediate, with community members taking information to share with family and friends.

Following the positive reception, our team has committed to returning on a fortnightly basis, establishing an information stall where we can connect directly with local residents and provide information about employment, training and community support services.

Working Together for Stronger Communities

These volunteering opportunities are helping our team build stronger relationships with local organisations while contributing to initiatives that make a meaningful difference in the lives of people across Rockhampton.

We would like to thank the Shelter Collective, the Mobi Bus volunteers and the Rockhampton Food Bank for welcoming our team and for the incredible work they continue to do every day.

Through partnerships, volunteering and community connection, we can all play a part in creating positive change.
